KENT, Ohio – It has been a long time coming but football is back for Kent State (1-0) and the MAC and the Golden Flashes behind 212 yards on the ground and 219 yards in the air behind Dustin Crum were able come back in the 4th quarter and defeat Eastern Michigan (0-1) 27-23 in come from behind fashion to start the 2020 season.
Kent State is now on a five-game winning streak dating back to last season with three regular season games and a win over Utah State in the Frisco Bowl.
Crum would go 21/29 throwing the ball for 219 yards with two scores and an interception. Isaiah McKoy would haul in eight of those passes for a touchdown while Mark Williams would pull in the second.
Bryan Bradford and Marquez Cooper would combine for 28 carries and 130 yards, but it would be Xavier Williams and Crum himself scoring the two rushing touchdowns.
Kent State would open up a 20-9 lead in the first half but then would see Easter Michigan run off the next 14 points and put the Golden Flashes down with 12 minutes to go.
Crum would find Mark Williams four minutes later and that would end up being the game winner.
The Kent State defense would hold the Eagles to just 61 yards on the ground and would keep EMU's Preston Hutchinson in check with 241 yards with two scores and two picks.
With this win, Kent State has now beaten Eastern Michigan in six of the last seven games including a 34-26 win in 2019.
Kent State will hit the road next week and travel to Bowling Green to take on the Falcons on Tuesday, November 10th at 7:30pm (EST) and that game can be seen on ESPN2.
