Kent State Unveils 2020 Football Schedule

KENT, OHIO- The Kent State Golden Flashes will host the Eastern Michigan Eagles to open the 2020 season and host "The School Down the Road" as well as the Ohio Bobcats, highlighting the six-game slate announced by the Mid-American Conference.

The Mid-American Conference announced on September 25th to institute a six-game conference schedule starting on Wednesday, November 4th. A conference championship game will be played on Friday, December 18th at Ford Field.

The Golden Flashes will open up the season at home with the Eastern Michigan Eagles. It will be the first time the teams have met in a season opener since 1992 and the first time ever at Dix Stadium. Kent State clinched bowl eligibility last season at the hands of the Eagles, knocking off Eastern Michigan 34-26 in Ypsilanti.

"Really excited for the kids to be able to open the season at home on November 4th," head coach Sean Lewis said. "Looking down the road, these games will be a tremendous test for us."

The Flashes will look to defend a pair of rivalry trophies in weeks two and three. The Anniversary Trophy is on the line on Tuesday, November 10th when Kent State travels west to take on the Bowling Green Falcons. Kent State exploded for 750 yards of offense and 62 points in a runaway 62-20 victory last season over the Falcons. Kent State will look to defend The Wagon Wheel Trophy on Tuesday, November 17th. The Golden Flashes took home the Wagon Wheel last year with a 26-3 road victory.

The back half of the schedule switches to traditional Saturdays for the Mid-American Conference. Kent State will have 11 days off before traveling to Buffalo to take on the Bulls on Saturday, November 28th. The Golden Flashes' four-game winning streak to end the season started in improbable fashion against Buffalo last season. Kent State scored 24 unanswered points in the final eight minutes of regulation to win 30-27 on a Matthew Trickett game-winning field goal.

The final road trip of the season follows on Saturday, December 5th when Kent State takes on the defending conference champion Miami Redhawks. Miami handed the Golden Flashes its lone home loss last season, 23-16. Kent State will be looking for its first win in Oxford since 2012.

Senior day and the regular season finale for the Golden Flashes happens on Saturday, December 12th against the Ohio Bobcats. Kent State has dropped a pair of one-score heartbreakers to the Bobcats in the past two seasons, including a 45-38 affair in Athens last season.

"We are very grateful for the opportunity to play this season, "Coach Lewis added. "But we need to keep our focus on handling today and every day the right way. "

All kick times are still to be determined and will be announced along with a television schedule in the coming weeks..
