It has been a long time since Kent State (2-0) started a season at 2-0 but the 2020 Golden Flashes are there after a thorough rout of Bowling Green (0-2) on Tuesday evening, 62-24. The last time Kent State started a season off with two straight wins was 1988.

Of course, this is a strange season where the MAC is only playing MAC opponents in a six-game schedule. There are no "buy games" against teams from the Big Ten, SEC or other conferences to start the year.

Dustin Crum threw for 271 yards and four touchdowns while the Golden Flashes scored three touchdowns on the ground with Marquez Cooper finding the end zone twice. The Kent State offense would rack up 667 yards of total offense as everything was working in this game.

Back-up quarterback Collin Schlee would throw his first collegiate touchdown late in the game, a good sign for the future of the program.

Bowling Green struggled throwing the ball as Matt McDonald was just 6/20 passing and would only throw for 105 yards. McDonald would find the end zone once on the ground. Terion Stewart would score twice in the fourth quarter as he rushed for 162 yards on 14 carries, a lone bright spot for the Falcons.

Tuesday's game would mark the second consecutive year that Kent State put up 62 points on Bowling Green. Kent State has now won the last three games in this series but still trails the overall series by a significant margin as BGSU leads the overall mark 60-22-6. The series dates back to 1920 and the two teams have played yearly since 2004.

Getting back to tides turning for Kent State under head coach Sean Lewis, the Golden Flashes are now on a five-game winning streak dating back to 2019.

Kent State will return home next week to take on Akron on Tuesday evening, The two teams will kick off at 7pm and the game can be seen nationally on ESPNU.
