Golden Flashes look to shine at Pro Day

KENT, Ohio - The Kent State Field House was filled with an unparalleled number of professional scouts Wednesday, as 14 former Golden Flashes put their skills to the test on Pro Day. Some teams brought as many as three representatives, including assistant coaches. In all, 24 NFL teams and one CFL team made trip to Kent.

The biggest draw was from offensive lineman Brian Winters (Hudson, Ohio), who was particularly impressive with his lateral movement. The 21-year old, 315-pounder completed the short shuttle in 4.7 seconds. His vertical jump was 31.5 inches and his broad jump was 8-11.

Fellow lineman Josh Kline (Mason, Ohio) has also brought NFL attention to himself. Kline tied for the most bench press (225 lbs) reps with 25. Several NFL offensive line coaches had both Winters and Kline do extensive position work.

Also totaling 25 reps on the bench was long snapper Ryan Hidalgo (Fayetteville, Ga.), whose college career came to an abrupt end during the 2011 opener. Following a long recovery from injury, Hidalgo appeared to be stronger than ever.

Wide receiver Eric Adeyemi (Miami, Fla.) had the top time in the 40-yard dash (4.48) and the longest distance in the broad jump (10-1). Linebacker Luke Batton (Macedonia, Ohio) had the top time in the three-cone run at 6.88 seconds.

Running back Larry Dawson (Akron, Ohio) clocked the best times in both the short shuttle (4.2) and long shuttle (11.2). He also had the best vertical jump at 34.5 inches.

Kicker Freddy Cortez (Fort Meade, Fla.) was connecting on field goals from 55 yards out.

Other Kent State participants included: Dana Brown (McKeesport, Pa.), Spencer Keith (Little Rock, Ark.), Norman Wolfe (Akron, Ohio), Sid Saulter (Miami, Fla.), C.J. Malauula (Oceanside, Calif.), Leon Green (Monroeville, Pa.) and Matt Hurdle (Richmond, Va.).
