The turning point of yesterday's game came midway through the second quarter when the defense created a spectacular goal-line stand. After allowing Eastern to pick up a first down inside the Kent 1-yard line, the defense stuffed four straight running plays that set the tone for the rest of the game. On fourth down, nose tackle Quinton Rainey stuffed Terrence Blevins for a 5-yard loss. After that goal-line stand, the only other time Eastern threatened to score was on a 36-yard field goal attempt that sailed wide right.
I am pleased to see the defense playing with more intensity. It has been said that defense wins games, and yesterday's performance is proof positive of that. Had Eastern been able to score from the one-yard line and made an extra point, the score would have been 14-13 at that point and given the Eagles the momentum in the game. By stopping Eastern from scoring on the one-yard line, the defense took away the Eagles best chance of making it into the endzone. Hopefully, we will continue to see marked improvement from the defense this season. With a tough conference game coming up this week against Ohio, the defense will have to play with even greater intensity for the Flashes to win. Will the defense rise to the challenge?

The defense plays another great game. However, I defer to Steve for his analysis and stats.

I am nothing less than totally elated. I was not at the game, but I listened to every play. It is obvious that for maybe the first time, the coaches called plays, defensively and offensively, aggressively and to to win. I will accept that we have a staff that is learning on the job. This game was a giant step forward. Again, I am happy for the players and the coaches.
