Is it possible that there are talented athletes out there who are never noticed by Division I programs just like there are so many talented singers out there who are never discovered by recording agents. For example, I can name three talented singers who I saw recently on NBC's The Voice who sang songs that were much better than the original artists. Dia Frampton's rendition of Kanye West's song "Heartless" was according to Cee Lo Green the best rendition of any song he has ever heard (see link). On YouTube, one fan wrote, "Love her cover.....wish Kanye's would disappear. It's pathetic compared to this." My personal favorite of all The Voice singers is Vicci Martinez, whose version of Rolling in the Deep is much better than Adele's original song. And the other singer on The Voice who sang a song so much better than the original artist is Xenia Martinez. Her version of Price Tag was awesome.

So is it possible that there are talented athletes who are never noticed by Division I programs just like there are singers who are never discovered by recording agents?

Here is Vicci Martinez singing Rolling in the Deep. It simply doesn't get any better than this! Hopefully she will get a recording contract after her exposure on The Voice. But until that happens, she, like so many artists, has to struggle just to make ends meet. If she does make it big, her life could change as much as it did for James Harrison of the Steelers. At 26 years old, Martinez is the same age as Harrison when he was signed a fourth time by the Steelers during training camp in 2004 after Clark Haggans sustained an injury in an offseason weightlifting accident. Harrison had said that if not for Haggans's injury he planned to retire from football at age 26 and go back to Akron and become a truck driver. But today, Harrison is one of the premiere defensive players in the NFL. What an amazing story! One day he's an unknown and four years later he's the AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year! I just hope Vicci Martinez will one day have her own success story to tell.

Not convinced yet about Vicci Martinez? Listen to her sing "Leave The Light On" and tell me she can't sing better than most of the recording artists performing today.

Steve, after 55 views and no responses, you should just go ahead and rename Nielsen's Nest....The Morgue. But wait, perhaps this song of Cee-Lo Green and Vicci Martinez will help bring some life to this board.
