September 22, 2013STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - The Kent State offense was never able to get things in gear as it stalled for 190 yards of total offense and zero points as the Penn State Nittany Lions shut out the Golden Flashes, 34-0.
Penn State running back Zach Zwinak scored three times from inside the 2-yard line while freshman quarterback Christian Hackenberg was not very effective on a rainy day in going 13 for 35 for 176 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Kent State quarterback Colin Reardon was 12 for 28 with 100 yards passing and a pick before being replaced by David Fisher who was 5 for 8.
Kent State is now 0-10 against current members of the Big Ten Conference and 0-4 against Penn State all-time.
The Golden Flashes went into the game undermanned with Dri Archer being held out of the game after an ankle injury in the opener has slowed him down. Starting nose guard Nate Terhune was out with a broken leg and his backup, Chris Fairchild, was knocked out of the game in the second quarter with a leg injury.
Senior defensive tackle Roosevelt Nix added to his team record in career tackles for loss with 58.
