Untitled Document KENT, Ohio - Most Kent State fans may not know what the Reese Trophy is but the athletic administration at Kent State does and for a fourth straight year the Golden Flashes have brought it home. The award is given for Men's All-Sports Excellence and this marks the seventh time that Kent State has won it dating back to 2000.

The award was handed out on Thursday night in Cleveland at the MAC Honors Dinner at the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel. The trophy gets its name from the first commissioner of the MAC, David E. Reese, who served as head of the league from its inception in 1946 until 1964.

Kent State finished more than half a point ahead of second place Eastern Michigan for this year's award. The standings are derived based upon points being awarded on each of the 12 league schools' final results for each of their respective sports. The overall total is split by the amount of sports participated in by each school. Each school can select either indoor or outdoor Track and Field in the equation.

The success of the Golden Flashes for the 2011-12 academic year was carried by MAC championships in wrestling, men's golf and baseball. The track and field team took home a second in both indoor and outdoor competition. Men's hoops (which ultimately went to the CIT postseason tournament) and cross country were among the top third (top-four) in the league and the football team finished third in the East.

The Kent State women's programs finished in a tie for fifth for the Jacoby Trophy which is the equivalent honor on the women's side of MAC athletic competitions.
