Youngstown DE to make junior day visit
Marc Givler
KentStateReport.com On February 26th, the Kent State football program will host its first big junior day for the 2013 recruiting cycle. Some top targets from all over the state of Ohio are expected to attend and one of the best prospects on the list is Youngstown (Ohio) Christian defensive end KaeVon Green. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound prospect was a first team all-Ohio selection as a junior and was the Division VI co-defensive player of the year. Green recently received his invite from Kent State in the mail.
"I plan on going (to the Kent State junior day)," said Green. "At the moment I haven't had any contact (with the coaching staff) yet."
Green has also been invited to a junior day at Toledo and as he begins to check out the schools that are recruiting him he has two important factors that he will be looking at.
"I just want to see how I would fit in at the schools and I want to see how the academics are," he said. "I'd like to be an engineer; I've always liked building things."
Green is currently reporting interest from half a dozen Division I football programs and says he does have a favorite school that he grew up following.
"Ohio State, Toledo, Cincinnati, Kent State, Youngstown State, and Northern Illinois (are showing interest)," he said. "I like Ohio State. I just like their athletic program and how the play."
Few defensive ends in the state of Ohio produced at the level that Green did this past season where he notched 16 sacks and added 11 more tackles-for-loss.
"I was just using my speed and my agility most of the time, and just good technique," he said. "I'm still working in the weight room and getting stronger and doing a little more speed training. I'm running track, I'm doing the 60 meters."
While it will be tough to top his numbers from a year ago, that is exactly what Green plans to do as a senior.
"To be a leader and to work harder, that's about it," he said. "I want to do better than I did last year."
